These past few days have been quite eventful for me. I’ve been working on the monkey project, which is getting there steadily. Just one more monkey to go and most of its parts are done.
This September, my boyfriend and I will be going to Greece for ten days. I’m pretty excited, but also bumped into a slight problem: I don’t want to bring all the stuff I need for amigurimis with me (stuffing, eyes, needles and whatnot), but I think I might go crazy if I don’t bring a project with me to work on in the evenings or lazy afternoons! So I’ve decided that I will make an afghan while on our little trip. I fell in love with a pattern, but I’m not really sure if I will be able to pull it off. So far, every project that is not an ami ended up in my bog box of unfinished projects and junk… But I will certainly give it a try!
But that is something for the future, a bit closer is a request from a friend: another big minion! So today, I finally sat myself at the computer to type out the pattern. It will be easier to work from than my notes, which always tend to end up really messy -_-”
I have send the typed out pattern to All About Ami and asked her if it’s ok if I post it here. Since she wrote the pattern I based mine on, I believe it is only decent to ask her opinion first. I hope she doesn’t mind, cause this minion has been getting a lot of attention!
What really made my week was that Ana Paula Rimoli liked the big minion enough to share the link to this little blog on her facebook page. And man, did it ever create a buzz! This place had never seen so many visitors and I would like to thank everyone who liked it enough to take a look around! I feel very honored to be recognized by someone who is one of my idols when it comes to crocheting. (If you don’t know who Ana Paula is, she has four crochet pattern books published and is working on the fifth one.)
And this week I finally got to see Despicable Me2! I completely fell head over heels for the ‘evil’ purple minions, so now I really feel the need to crochet some of those as well!
So in short, it’s been a busy week and I’ll probably be busy for a few more!
Stay tuned for pictures of the complete monkey set!
Find Ana Paula on facebook here!
So, a big project coming up: three monkeys. I guess they are depicting ‘see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil’.
My cousin sent me a picture asking if I could make them for her. A bit of googling later and I had found the pattern for the monkeys. It’s going to be a bit of a challenge, because the pattern is in German. But I think I’ll be alright.
Also, this will be my first time working with plastic granules to weigh the amigurumis down a bit. Hope it will work! Does anyone reading this have any experience with working with granules?
After a rather easy mothers day, fathers day was a bit more difficult gift-wise. For some reason, fathers always seem to have everything they want or need. Plus, I find crocheting for men much, much more difficult. So both my dad and my father-in-law will have to make due with ‘normal’ gifts.
In the meantime, I have been making progress with the minion from my last post:
Now come the hardest parts: shoes and gloves. For the rest it was pretty easy to figure out how it has to be done. I’m kind of following the all about ami despicable minion pattern, that I have done before, only with half double crochets and working more rounds to make it bigger. But scaling up the shoes is going to be a challenge I think :S
Wish me luck!
I’m working on a big minion from the movie ‘Despicable me’ for my brother and of course, I ran out of stuffing >_< probably won't be able to get any till Wednesday…
Is there anything you pretty much always run into while working on a big project?
Ps: work-in-progress picture
In case you wonder what I’ve been up to this past week, here’s a work-in-progress picture:
I desperately need my order of safety-eyes to come in so I can finish these animal cupcakes ^_^
I owe a few of my friends a small gift and these were just too much fun to pass up on. I got some cupcake giftboxes to put them in, all together it just looks too cute.
Here’s the one cupcake I could finish before running out of the right size eyes and the box they’ll go in:
All right, back to work!
Do you ever get that feeling that you’ve taken too much yarn on your hook?
Currently, I’m working on three projects at once. And I actually feel like doing one extra at the same time. I really need to pace myself.
I have a table in the corner of the living room, right between the couches, where I put all the stuff I’m working on. It currently looks like this:
I’ve started on the goat for my boyfriend, but about halfway I came to the conclusion I don’t have nearly enough yarn to finish it. The pattern calls for about 60 grams of white yarn, but I bought a heavier sort. I figured that if I just took two skeins (about 100 grams) I would be fine, but now I’ve got the body and almost half the head done and I’ve run out. So I need to order some more.
Then, I started on something different than the ami’s I’m so used to making: a handbag. For this I need to use a really thick band-like material, RibbonXL. But since this is so thick, I need to use a 10mm hook and it’s so very heavy to work on. I finished four rounds and my hands were hurting like crazy. Also, the pattern uses a special kind of stitch to make little loops in your work, but it’s pretty difficult to do, especially since it’s been very cold lately and my hands are all dried out, making it pretty hard to hold on to anything.
And lastly, I started on a mystery project, which is supposed to be a present for a friend of mine. Contrary to the handbag, this project requires pretty tiny, fidgety work, which also makes my hands hurt.
Good new is: my yar of Lucky Stars is almost full! I have to admit I’ve been working more on lucky stars than on my crochet work lately. But then again, it’s good to change things up once in a while. Maybe I’ll be able to get some order into my inspiration and work on everything one at a time again!
This weekend, there was a sale at the Echtstudio store. You know, the one I went to a week and a half ago ^_^ This time I went with two other friends and had a blast once again. One of my friends is just starting to crochet, so she really had some hardcore shopping to do. As for me, I kept it light with just some stuff I needed and had been looking for.
I’ve had my eye on the pattern for a bag for a while now, so I decided to go ahead and try to make something other than little stuffed toys. I needed a special type of yarn for it, RibbonXL, which is basically a kind of band with which you crochet. Plus, I needed a hook to go with that, 10mm! Seems huge to me and I wonder how well I will do. Of course, I couldn’t decide on a colour, so I took two different ones, just in case I do well with the first try and decide to make another.
Also, my boyfriend asked me if I could make a goat for him. It’s kind of a running gag between us, so I decided to see what I could do. So when I came across the new book from Christel Krukkert “Crochetparty on the farm” (loosely translated) and saw the pattern for a cute little goat in there, I knew I had to get it. Add a little sound box to make a sheep/goatish sound, some white yarn and I am good to go!
Other than that, I stocked up on some eyes and got myself some really strong magnets. There’s a pattern I’ve been meaning to make, it’s of little monkeys that you can put together and stick on all things metal with magnets. I already bought some magnets a long time ago, but found out they lose their sticking ability once they need to go through yarn. So now, I should be able to fix that ^_^
To finish this post off, here’s a picture of what I’ve been working on: a little Easter Bunny. I just need to make some eggs for her to hide and I’m good to go for Easter.
PS: Catbus is done! Pictures will come in a later post and I even managed to jot down the pattern, so I should be putting that up also pretty soon.
The flu and a splitting headache are preventing me from typing out my patterns, so here’s a little something I’m working on at the moment. It’s a life-sized Mog from Final Fantasy XIII-2. Now if I could only manage to keep its antenna up…
